Accommodation

Hi everyone! I'm coughing little chewy bits of green sputum and trying to stop my runny nose with the enormous wad of tissue by my side... Aaahhh, the winter lurgy is one of the perks of working in a hospital during December.
Neverthless! I am one tough little cookie and I bring you this next bit of information regarding accommodation!
Apart from browsing their websites, we have not personally checked any of these places out due to time and money constraints. The list below was given to us by Preston Court's event manager,  Anna.

As we have guests from the UK, guests flying in from Malaysia, United States, Germany and possibly Australia and Macau, it has been quite hard to coordinate accommodation. Originally we were thinking of maybe block-booking rooms at a hotel, but our overseas guests are flying in on different dates, with different schedules, and different budgets - some are arriving a week before the wedding and touring the UK. We think most of our UK friends will be driving down from wherever they are in the UK then staying a couple of nights in Kent before driving back for work. Do drop us an email when your travel plans are finalised or even update us using the comments box if you're looking for somebody to book rooms at the same place.

We are also thinking of renting out a huge holiday guesthouse close to Preston during the lead up to the wedding, maybe 8-10 rooms enough for 20 people? This may be a very budget friendly option but may not work for everybody. If you are interested, drop us a line!

With each accommodation below, use Google Maps to work out how far the hotel / B&B is from the venue / rail station. Numbers in brackets is distance of the accommodation from the wedding venue.

Preston Court has a list of taxi cab companies so don't worry about trying to get numbers for cab companies after the night has ended.

All the details about our wedding :D

When?
Saturday 14th April 2012.
Guests to arrive at 1.00 - 1.15 pm for the civil ceremony at 2 pm.

Where?
Preston Court, Preston, Canterbury CT3 1DH, Kent, United Kingdom.
A fabulous 17th century Kentish barn / manor house set in a private estate.
We hope to have an outdoor ceremony on Juliana's Island with our loved ones looking on. Join us in praying vvvvv hard for great April weather!

Well that's great but how do I get there?

By car
We presume most of our UK friends will be travelling down by car.
If so, postcode for your GPS will be: CT3 1DH.
Enter the postcode in Google Maps

The easiest route to Preston by road from the west is: Follow the A2/M2 from London towards Dover, and take the 3rd exit after Canterbury (Barham interchange) for the B2046 towards Wingham. After 4 miles you will reach Wingham, and we are the next village just beyond (signposted for Preston). At the entrance sign for Preston village turn left into Court Lane. Head for the church at the bottom of the lane, where you will find the house and farm. There is ample free parking at the venue.

By train / rail
The nearest rail station is Canterbury East or Canterbury West. A taxi from the rail station is about £15, and takes 15-20 minutes. If you are taking the train from central London, it takes about 1 and a half hours.

The best sites to browse for train schedules etc are The Train Line and National Rail. If you book in advance or buy to singles,  The Train Line can be quite cheap.

What to bring on the day
Dress for the April weather - April is usually sunny but may still be chilly outside and with the British weather, you never know!
For weather updates closer to the time, the The Met Office or BBC Weather are  usually reliable.
Also bring cash for the bar and taxis if needed.

We will update the blog about accommodation in our next post!
